The Salters A-level Chemistry course has many characteristic features. The most notable is the fact that chemical principles are developed in the context of the applications of Chemistry.
In the first module students will study elements in the human body, the solar system and the universe as well as fuels and the contribution that chemists make to the development of better fuels.
n the second module, students learn about extraction and uses of bromine and copper, concepts used to introduce major classes of chemical reactions. They study chemical processes occurring in the atmosphere which have an important influence on life on Earth, focusing particularly on the depletion of the ozone layer and the greenhouse effect, and the way these are affected by human activities, as well as the role of chemistry in understanding and controlling the resulting problems. Finally students story of the development of addition polymers, from the first discoveries to the present day, emphasising the chance nature of many of the discoveries.
The Last module Students practical skills are assessed through activities within the course.
A Chemistry A-level course will suit logical students and will enable students to have access to a diverse range of courses at University.
