The course relies upon students developing a critical awareness of the mass media. Students must be prepared to analyse in some detail, those aspects of popular culture which other people experience for pleasure. They must also look to gain a knowledge of film, television, newspapers, radio, magazines, comics and new media in order to complete this course.
Students will be involved in making a media text.
Other units studied in Years 12 and 13 include Textual Analysis, Audience and Institutions, Media Issues and Debates and an independent Critical Research study.
Students will pursue the OCR specification, which involves a significant (50%) practical element.
AS-level and A-level
Grade B or better in both English and English Literature at GCS
