2 Year Courses - Physics
AS-level and A-level
We will be offering the Advancing Physics A-level course from the OCR examining board. This is an innovative syllabus designed by the Institute of Physics in order to give students a highly motivating, context-based experience of Physics.
The course covers the following topics:
- Communication (AS)
- Designer Materials (AS)
- Waves and Quantum Behaviour (AS)
- Space, Time & Motion (AS)
- Models and Rules (A2)
- Matter in Extremes (A2)
- Fields (A2)
- Fundamental Particles (A2)
Examination / Assessment
AS-level
Two written module papers, one worth 30% of AS marks, one worth 50%. Two short coursework tasks, each worth 10% of AS marks.
A2-level
Two written module papers, plus coursework: the weightings are the same as for AS.
Qualification
AS-level and A-level
Entry requirement
A minimum of a BB in double award Science (GCSE Science plus Additional Science); or a B in GCSE Physics.
A minimum of Grade B or higher in Mathematics (higher tier).
