Non entry to Public Examinations-Criteria
Paid entry for public examinations (AS, A2 and other qualifications) is not automatic.
If a student’s attendance, work or achievement gives cause for concern, the teachers, Head of Year and Head of Sixth Form will review the track record in the following areas:
Each student must show that they have done enough work to justify entry.
If there are problems each student will be given specific targets in each of these areas.
If a student fails to meet these targets within a set timescale, she will not be entered for public exams.
If the student has already been entered she will be withdrawn.

After repeated warnings from a tutor or teacher, a student is referred to the Head of Dept/Faculty and given, in writing, a specific warning which contains specific targets for improvement. A copy of the warning and targets is sent to the student. The student is put on Stage 1 report.
The Head of Dept/Faculty monitors the student’s progress closely. If she is satisfied after two weeks that the student has amended her ways, the student may be removed from Stage One. She may be returned to Stage One if there is further concern expressed by staff.
If there is no improvement within a fortnight (minimum), the student is placed on Stage Two and referred to Head of Year. On Stage Two report the student must report to Head of Year at the end of every day. This involves a meeting with parents and the student. The targets which were not met are reviewed. The student is given new targets and issues arising are discussed. The student and her parents are informed that if there is no improvement, she will be dropped from the course.
If there is an improvement over a two week period, the student may be dropped to Stage One. If not, Stage Three is enacted.
A meeting is arranged with the Head of Key Stage 5 for the student and her parents and the Head of Year.
The case is reviewed, views are sought. If there is no sign of improvement, the student will drop the course. If there is an undertaking to improve, the student is given clear targets, as before, in writing. On Stage Three report the student must report to Head of KS5 at the end of each day.
If the student improves, she moves down to Stage Two. If she does not, she is informed in writing by the Head that, with immediate effect, she is dropped from the course.
In the event of issues arising in more that one subject, Stage Three may result in the student being asked to leave the Sixth Form.
